As teachers and support staff at Longcroft School, we are deeply concerned about the proposal to close our Sixth Form. This decision will have a serious impact on our students, our staff, and the wider Beverley community — and we are calling on everyone to help us fight it.
Why It Matters

Four Reasons
to Fight For It

Local Access

A local opportunity for young people to access high quality post-16 education — without travelling far from home.

Safe Environment

A safe, familiar environment where students feel known, valued, and supported by staff they already trust.

Broad Curriculum

A diverse range of A-level and vocational subjects, giving every student genuine choice close to home.

Pastoral Support

Strong specialist pastoral care — vital for vulnerable and disadvantaged learners who need consistency.

The Consequences

The Impact
of Closure

For Students

  • Fewer local A-level and vocational options
  • Longer travel times and higher transport costs
  • Loss of specialist teachers and tailored support
  • Weaker subject knowledge across KS3 & KS4

For Staff

  • Risk of redundancies across teachers and support staff
  • Instability and reduced morale school-wide
  • Increased workload — less time for students

For Our Community

  • Reduced local educational provision in Beverley
  • Fewer opportunities for young people to study locally
  • Harder to attract and retain excellent teachers

How You

Contact your local MP and East Riding councillors and ask them to oppose the closure of Longcroft's Sixth Form.

Write to the Governors

Write to the school governors to make clear why the Sixth Form must not close. Governor decisions respond to community pressure.
